Course Programme
Module 0. Course presentation and introduction.
Module 1. Introduction to Educational Escape Rooms. This module explains the foundations and main characteristics of game-based learning and educational escape rooms, as well as their potential educational applications.
Module 2. Designing Educational Escape Rooms. This module explains the different elements that should be considered when designing a pedagogically sound educational escape room and presents best practices for their design.
Module 3. Resources and Recommendations for Creating Educational Escape Rooms. This module introduces resources for creating content and puzzles for educational escape rooms, as well as tools for building complete educational escape rooms. It also provides recommendations for creating educational escape rooms, including guidance on using generative artificial intelligence tools to create content for these activities.
Module 4. Best Practices for Executing Educational Escape Rooms. This module presents best practices for running educational escape rooms in both face-to-face and remote settings, as well as for implementing game-based learning experiences using educational escape rooms.
Module 5. Creating and Executing Educational Escape Rooms Using Digital Tools. This module provides participants with detailed guidance on how to create and run educational escape rooms using a free and open-source web platform called Escapp. Using this platform, participants can define the content, puzzles, hints, instructions, and configuration of an educational escape room, as well as manage its execution (scheduling sessions, creating and registering teams, monitoring the activity, calculating grades, etc.).
Module 6. Guided Workshop. In this module, participants will use the Escapp platform to create, step by step, an educational escape room based on a predefined design and a set of resources provided at the beginning of the module. Participants will receive detailed explanations of each step required to complete the requested escape room.
Module 7. Final Project. In this module, each participant will design and create an educational escape room from scratch, putting into practice all the knowledge acquired throughout the course. Participants will be able to discuss questions with the teaching team and fellow participants through a forum. All educational escape rooms created by participants will be reviewed and assessed by the teaching team, who will provide individual feedback on each submission.
Certification
This course offers two types of completion certificates free of charge, depending on the modules successfully completed.
Participants who successfully complete all course modules will receive a certificate of completion corresponding to 25 hours of training.
Participants who successfully complete Modules 1 to 5 will receive a certificate of completion corresponding to 6 hours of training.
Therefore, participants may choose either to complete only the theoretical part of the course (Modules 1–5) and obtain a 6-hour certificate, or to complete the entire course (theoretical and practical components) and obtain a 25-hour certificate.
